Joensuun matkailuoppaat knows the town of Joensuu and its stories, history, and people. Did you know that Joensuu in North Karelia was a center of international trade in Finland in the 19th century? Trade made the small town grow into a lively and modern town of culture and education. We have a wide range of stories to tell and places to introduce.

We always plan our guided tours, the route and the stories, according to your wishes. Our tour languages are Finnish, English, Swedish, Spanish, Russian, and Japanese. We are local guides in Joensuu, authorized by the Federation of Finnish Tourist Guide Associations, a member of WFTGA and IGC.

Luminous Joensuu

In the dark of night, let's dive into the world of light art and technology! The guide will tell about many light-related innovations developed in the photonics cluster of Joensuu and show you light art and artistic lights illuminating the city environment.

The guided walking tour starts at 5:00 p.m. in Jokikatu 8 (under Suvantosilta bridge) and ends at the gates of Botania.

Time: Saturday, February 21st at 5 p.m.
Starting point: Jokikatu 8 (parking lot)
Duration: ca 1.5 hours
Route: walking distance ca. 3 km, Jokikatu 8, 80220 Joensuu to Heinäpurontie 70, 80110 Joensuu (Botania)
Attire: dress warmly for the weather

Guided walking tour and Guided bus tour

Did you know that Joensuu is the forest capital of Europe and a leading hub in photonics, i.e. light science and technology? On a guided tour near the center of Joensuu, you will get to know the sites where education, research, and business related to forests and light meet. You will hear stories about the history and expertise related to forests and light, which are visible in the urban environment and daily life of the residents of Joensuu. On the tour, you can admire the gems of wooden construction in Tori and Mehtimäki and perhaps also light art in Ilosaari and in the Art and Event Garden Botania.

You can order this guided tour as a bus tour or as a walking tour, with the guiding in English or Finnish language. Now you can get to know the technological inventions and innovations of Joensuu!
